The problem
The National Road Safety Plan (PNSS, Piano Nazionale della Sicurezza Stradale) Orizzonte 2020 established the goals and intervention strategies in Italy until 2020. The project carried out an in-depth analysis of the current road safety situation in order to evaluate whether or not the strategies proposed in the PNSS Orizzonte 2020 are still sufficient to counter the main road safety problems in Italy.
Our approach
The approach consisted of:
- a road accident analysis in the 2010-2016 period with the comparison with the reduction goals of the PNSS Orizzonte 2020;
- an examination of the main actions realised and ongoing ones;
- an update of the PNSS Orizzonte 2020 strategic lines on the basis of the analyses carried out and the more recent European guidelines in this field.
