The new website dedicated to the Project of National Relevance (PRIN 2022), entitled “Development of an integrated model of economy and freight mobility with application to Italy”, is now online. The project, carried out with the research group of the Department of Engineering at the “Niccolò Cusano” University, aims to develop an integrated system of models capable of analysing the relationships between economic activities and freight mobility, providing useful tools to interpret and support transport dynamics in the Italian context.
The research investigates the bidirectional relationship between economy and transport: on the one hand, transport demand derives from production and consumption activities; on the other, transport supply influences supply and distribution markets.
The analysis focuses on the Italian territory, with a spatial level of detail at metropolitan cities and provinces (NUTS3) level, while also extending the perspective to the European and global context, considering import, export, and transit flows.
The website provides a dedicated space to explore:
- the relationship between economic development and freight transport demand;
- the organisation and evolution of logistics systems;
- scenarios and models supporting transport policies.
The modelling system developed represents a decision-support tool for policies and interventions in the sector, targeting public institutions, infrastructure managers, and logistics operators.
An initiative that promotes an integrated, sustainable, and data-driven vision of freight transport, increasingly central to the competitiveness of the national system.
