On 21–22 April 2026, the FERSI General Assembly took place in Sofia (Bulgaria), hosted by the Bulgarian State Agency for Road Safety (SARS). The meeting brought together members from across Europe to discuss organisational matters, exchange research insights, and define future priorities in road safety. CTL actively participated in the two-day meeting, contributing to both organisational discussions and strategic reflections within the FERSI network.
The Assembly opened with an overview of the road safety situation in Bulgaria, followed by key administrative and financial updates confirming a stable position of the association. CTL representatives were directly involved in these sessions, contributing to discussions on governance, financial outlook, and operational aspects.
A central part of the meeting focused on the exchange of ongoing research activities. Several projects and research lines were presented, covering topics such as traffic orchestration and automation, traffic safety culture, enforcement strategies, infrastructure safety, and Working Groups activities, including a presentation on the ARSANet (Africa Road Safety Academic Network) project. These discussions provided an important opportunity for CTL to engage with leading European research organisations and contribute to the advancement of data-driven road safety approaches.
CTL also contributed to forward-looking discussions during the second day, including involvement in upcoming European research initiatives, exploration of new funding opportunities, the potential organisation of a FERSI Conference in 2027–2028, and the renewal of FERSI’s website, aimed at strengthening communication and visibility. The meeting concluded with a round table session involving all participants, fostering open dialogue and reinforcing collaboration across the network.
The General Assembly in Sofia represented another important moment for CTL’s engagement within FERSI, reaffirming its role in supporting research cooperation, knowledge exchange, and evidence-based road safety policies at European level.
