Our team attended the 8th IRTAD International Conference, held in Athens, Greece, from 15 to 17 April 2026 and organized by the National Technical University of Athens. Themed “Better Road Safety Data for Better Safety Performance”, the conference brought together experts from IRTAD member countries and beyond to advance the quality of road safety data systems, foster knowledge transfer, and strengthen safety performance analysis worldwide.
CTL was well represented at the event, contributing four research papers spanning a broad range of road safety topics:
- “Development of a risk map analysis tool (RiskGrid) to support road safety impact assessment” — Valerio Michiorri, Brayan Gonzalez-Hernandez, Davide Shingo Usami, Luca Persia
- “Vehicle fleet safety and its correlation with road accidents in Italy” — Tejas Singri Krishnamurthy, Brayan González Hernández, Davide Shingo Usami, Luca Persia
- “Evaluating self-reported and attitudinal indicators as proxies for observed road safety behaviour” — Uta Meesmann, Peter Silverans, Naomi Wardenier, Dimitrios Nikolaou, George Yannis, Helga Mondésir, Manuelle Salathé, Sharon Heffernan, Brayan Gonzalez Hernandez, Francesca Damiani, Nikolay Naydenov, Wouter Van den Berghe, Agnieszka Stelling
- “A multi-domain road safety risk assessment: A case study in the Marche region, Italy” — Leonardo Ascenzi, Brayan Gonzalez-Hernandez, Davide Shingo Usami, Luca Persia
A standout moment from Athens: our researcher Valerio Michiorri was honoured with the Best Student Paper Award for his manuscript “Development of a risk map analysis tool (RiskGrid) to support mobility impact assessment”. In his paper, Valerio presents RiskGrid, an innovative tool he developed to predict and analyse mobility risks with greater precision and effectiveness — a meaningful contribution to the field of data-driven road safety assessment.
A great result for the entire group, reflecting our ongoing commitment to advancing road safety through cutting-edge data management and analytical methods.
