Sustainable Mobility

CTLup is part of the consortium which leads the project, officially signed by European Commission under Horizon Europe programme

Great news for our research group: BIO-INTEL-MOB project, coordinated by Sapienza University of Rome and officially signed with the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme, is ready to take off!

CTLup is part of the project consortium which will start its activities in January 2026, marking an important step toward a smarter, greener, and more inclusive mobility system for Europe’s peri-urban areas. At the heart of BIO-INTEL-MOB lies a bold vision: to transform peri-urban mobility into a climate-neutral, data-driven, and citizen-centric ecosystem. The project brings together an impressive mix of innovation and collaboration, combining AI-powered analytics, a Mobility Data Space, Digital Twins, and Peri-Urban Mobility Hubs (PUMHs) to reshape how people and goods move across regions.

Through IoT sensors, satellite imagery, smart cameras, and citizen-generated data, BIO-INTEL-MOB will create predictive models to optimize traffic, emissions, and multimodal mobility flows. Its Green-Safe Routing Algorithm (GSRA) and adaptive multimodal hubs will enhance public transport, shared mobility, and accessibility for vulnerable road users, ensuring safer and more efficient connections between urban and peri-urban areas. On the logistics side, the project will pioneer bio-based packaging, solar-powered micro-logistics hubs, and cargo-bike integration, supporting a circular and low-emission economy. These innovations will help cities reduce waste, cut emissions, and boost efficiency in last-mile delivery.

A key pillar of BIO-INTEL-MOB is the Smart Circular Governance (SCGo) framework, which will empower citizens and policymakers alike through VR/AR interfaces, real-time feedback tools, and a Knowledge Hub offering open-access resources and replicable models. This approach ensures that sustainable mobility decisions are not only data-driven — but also people-driven.

The project’s main objectives include:

  • Optimizing multimodal mobility through intelligent data integration (MultiSmartData)
  • Achieving safe, inclusive, and climate-neutral mobility (SafeCitiMob)
  • Developing sustainable and circular logistics (EcoLogis & FlexiMob)
  • Promoting adaptive and participatory governance for next-generation cities
  • Assessing impacts for scalable and long-term solutions
  • Aligning policies with EU directives to enable replicable urban models

By merging innovation, circularity, and participation, BIO-INTEL-MOB will pave the way for resilient, data-driven, and citizen-centred mobility systems, setting a new standard for Europe’s sustainable transition.
